Sketch #4: Pencil Drawing of a Chili Pepper and a Tea Bag I had a craving to start painting again, but I didn't want to deal with the mess painting creates. If I work with oil paints I have to make sure the room is well ventilated because the smell becomes overwhelming and then there is always the hassle of cleaning the brushes with turpentine and then having to wait one day before painting again in order for the paint to dry......acrylic is less of a mess, but it's also not as fun to work with, so colored pencils are my lazy alternative. The only problem is that at the end of the day my creativity level is shot from being in school and taking so many logical business classes. The only thing I could think of drawing tonight was the chili pepper because our kitchen is full of them and a tea bag because since the weather's been colder I've been drinking it non-stop. Hopefully next art session will be more productive (and creative).

Sketch #3: On Cleanliness

My room has turned into a war zone! I have been so busy with school and work that I haven't had time to clean properly (at least that's my excuse). Even though I've never been obsessive compulsive about cleaning, I like to have things in order. And right now, my room is far from orderly. The chair in the sketch used to be my rocking chair but now it has transformed into my personal dumping ground for clean clothes that I'm too lazy to put away, books that I use frequently, and other odds and ends that don't seem to fit anywhere else. Right after I post this I'm going to attack the clutter and break out the vacuum cleaner!

Sketch #2: Things I've Learned by Being a Waitress

1. The perma-grin: the artificial smile that makes you appear perky and chipper when really all you care about is the fact that your feet hurt, you're hungry, and you still have 45 minutes until your shift ends.

2. Smokers ALWAYS tip better than non-smokers and I still can't explain why.

3. Carrying trays filled with wine glasses, heavy plates, and scaldingly hot coffee should never be
entrusted to me under any conditions.

4. The customer is always right, but they are fair
game when it comes time to gossip with your
co-workers about how stupid people can be.

Sketch #1: You scream, I scream, we all scream for Ice Cream!

Today I was dragged to Cold Stone Creamery by my very eager Marketing 201 classmates to interview the manager for our marketing presentation. Of course it was also an excuse for us to pig out on ice cream while pretending to be productive. I have mixed feelings about Cold Stone...I've only been there twice, but I always get the feeling that it's just okay. Nothing special and certainly not worth the $5 I had to fork over for a small, or as they call it, a "like it" size. I miss the gelato in Florence, where for 1 euro you could get a cone of the best cookie ice cream right across the Arno...AND not even feel guilty about the caloric intake because gelato uses non-fat milk whereas Cold Stone uses 14% buttermilk (as we learned from Glenn the helpful manager) which equals death to dieters.
